Since I was 3, it's been a known fact that I have cat allergies. As in, if I step into a house that has a cat inside, I last anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours before I go into a sneezy, watery-eye, runny nose fit. This has been the case with ANY cat I encountered. I married a cat-lover (go figure), he really wanted to try it out so we got a cat. It was a baby tabby. We brought the cat home, bathed her, & I immediately just sat & waited for my body to react. It never did. I could rub my face all OVER this cat (I loved to cuddle her, she was constantly on my shoulder or up against my chest), and didn't even get the sniffles! What gives? I know that there is no such thing (supposedly) as a hypo-allergenic cat, but what would you call THAT? I don't suppose I would have the same experience with another tabby? This kitten turned out to be sick and didn't live much longer (just my luck!). We got another cat, which my alleries just couldn't handle. She was a white siamese-point or something like that.
**** I KNOW that cat allergies are due to something (a protein or enzyme?) in the cat's saliva, nothing to do with their coat. But I'm still thinking of trying to get another tabby. Any explanation for what happened? What do you think the odds are that we'll find another cat that my body doesn't react to?
Anybody else have this experience?
