I need a new deodorant? (male deodorant)?

Postby rickard » Mon Aug 09, 2010 3:30 pm

I used to use the "soft solid" Old Spice antiperspirant and the Old Spice stick one too, but I don't want to use antiperspirants anymore since they work basically by cramming aluminum into your pores. I'd rather use a deodorant instead now.

I also cannot stand the "stick" ones because when you apply them it freaking hurts unless you shave your underarms....

But here's the thing, I tried an Old Spice deodorant, not sure exactly what it's called but it was a blue colored solid but somewhat see-through, looks kinda like see-through blue wax, and when you apply it, it melts off as an invisible liquid. The liquid feeling kinda disturbed me -- but I can live with that -- but a little bit after I applied it, it started BURNING. Not too bad, but I definitely felt burning where it was on my skin.

So I tried a different one. Degree deodorant - same style too, it was a somewhat see-through solid, only this one was clear gray instead of clear blue, but it also "melts" when you'd apply it as an invisible liquid. And that one burns me as well. :/

Would anyone have any ideas why those clear ones that melt on as liquids give me a burning feeling where it's applied, (lasts like 30 min) and/or have any recommendations for a male deodorant? (not antiperspirant) Thanks.

Antiperspirants make your pores swell to keep you from perspiring. Those toxins need to go SOMEWHERE! When you switch from antiperspirant to deodorant only, your pores open & those toxins that have been backed up in there start seeping out. That's more than likely where the burning sensation is coming from. Just wipe underarms frequently with a warm wet cloth to cleanse. Once all those toxins have exited, you shouldn't feel the burning sensation any more. I use Old Spice High Endurance deodorant - comes in several fragrances - and have had great results with it. Deodoroant works best if you shave your underarms & rub the deodorant INTO the skin. Otherwise, you are swiping the deodorant on top of the hair & it never reaches the skin to do the job is it designed to do.

I like Degree deodorant myself, pretty innocuous to use and not overpowering. And Mennen deodorant. Stay clear of any antiperspirants, the chemicals are pretty harsh on sensitive skin. Dry deodorants tend to leave white chalk under your arms.

You might ask your doctor for recommendations. There are different types of skin and body chemistry and different products react to them differently and vice versa. My wife's skin was highly acidic and would discolor even gold rings.

Just make sure you don't stink of perspiration odor in you quest to find the perfect deodorant. You need to know that a deodorant just covers the smell so you won't get any wetness control like you do with an antiperspirant. Good luck.

I hate that sticky feeling too, so what I would say is to find the one you like and then you can pat some baby powder under your arm after applying the deodorant. That's what I do.

I use Speed Stick/Fresh
