Is okay for my children to eat cake that has 2 tbs of cognac in it?

I found a recipe for strawberry shortcake cake, and it calls for 2 tbs of cognac to be mixed into the cake mix. I know that alcohol cooks out depending on how long you cook something. But I wasn't all that sure on if kids can eat desserts that contain some levels of it in it. Just curious because I am about to just make it without it so they can have some, but wanted to keep the original flavor that was ment for the cake.

it should be ok. not enough alcohol to hurt anyone. but use ur own judgment. the sugar is probably worse thzan the alcohol.

yes it will be fine. most of it will cook out, and they won't feel anything off a slice of cake

Yes this should be fine. 2 tsp will not effect anyone and most of the booze part cooks away leaving only the flavor behind

It will be fine. Vanilla flavoring is actually higher in alcohol than wine and some liquors.

ETA: I just looked it up to verify and yes vanilla flavoring is at least 35% alcohol which would make it 70 proof. Cognac is a distilled wine (which would technically make it a liquor) with an alcohol % of 35-70%

ETA: Actually almost none of the alcohol cooks out of baked goods and very little out of other foods. The old wives tale was printed in an old cook book and was never disputed until a couple of decades ago. Tests have proved that alcohol doesn't cook out of foods as reported.

I am not a doctor, just a mom, but I wouldn't worry about it. My kids are grown and healthy, and I always let them eat rum cake when I made it for holidays. Think about it, divide that 2 tbs over the whole cake, the amount is too small to be concerned about. Enjoy!
