Is there any down side to using underarm deodorant or antiperspirant?

I suppose, like most, I've been using it every day for the last 53 years or so. When I think about it - which isn't often, the process does stop some sort of a "natural" human function. It doesn't concern me enough to start sweating and stinking at this point of my life, but I am curious.

"When I think about it - which isn't often, the process does stop some sort of a "natural" human function."

is your answer.

The active ingredient used by most deodorants is Aluminum Chlorohydrate. This effectively...stops-up, the opening at the surface of the sweat gland. I view this as a problem, as you say, it interupts the natural bodily action.

I use a product which is a collection of natural salts and minerals suspended in pure water.

It don stop nothin up and works well. I think the brand name is..."Naturally Fresh"! "Fresh" most likely being, an exaggeration!  lol

antiperspirant, they tend to use metals to sort of jam up the sweat glands. It is why you are not supposed to wear any on the day you go for a mammogram, sometimes 2 days before. The metal present interferes with the scans.

If you keep your underarm hair short or non existant, odor can't gather, and avoid polyester for the same reason. If we do that and all bathe or shower daily, there is really no need to worry about smell.

This is somewhat confusing.

I have read several articles related to this subject.

Some say that the aluminum may be linked to Altimeters disease.

I have used Secret forever but if they come out with an aluminum free I would purchase it.

I have tried Tom's which is aluminum free so it's a deodorant not an antiperspirant.  I don't love it.  I have stopped using it.  I don't like to have pit stains.  I don't like to be wet.

I do notice some actors that always have sweat stains and I figured it's becuase of this.  They are using deodorant but not antiperspirant.

So I'm sure everyone will jump on the band wagon to sell their product.

I don't know how the government lets these companies sell stuff that is bad for us and get away with it.  If it really is bad for us.

Don't you wish you could get a straight answer-on tons of questions.  Me too.

So my opinion is that I would use one in case as long as I am comfortable with the results.

have a good one.

That was my thing, anyway. I've skin that's more sensitive than I'd like. But also, as an academic person, I don't really sweat that much, and when I do, I'm academic enough to have arranged it to occur before I shower. I used to use that stuff and found it largely pointless and difficult. But that's only me.
