My 22 yr old brother has a lot of mental issues he has been diagnosesed with bipolar disorder and physcosis?

My brother in law has these episodes where he just gets so angry over things like being confronted in a lie or other little things like not getting enough attention (not being treated like a child) he has a history of cutting pictures or tearing up things that don't belong to him, he also likes to play barbies with my 5 yr old daughter and 8 yr old niece he also wants to be a girl he carries a purse (not that anything is wrong with that just trying to give ideas about how he is) he also can't pee in the toilet he pees on the floor in front of the toilet he doesn't want to bathe or wear deodorant or brush his teeth (and he weighs about 300 lbs so hygiene is important) now here is the gross part instead of toilet paper he wants to use women's menstrual things we have to hide them from him. he also steals alot from department stores to family members like bras, thongs, cd's, anything. He has done things like this most of his life and now he is getting worse his doctors wont listen to the family because he is an adult so he denies what we say i don't think his diagnosis is correct what should we do? he is also not treated for his physcosis so i wonder if he has really been diagnosed with this.

Most all ppl I know that have bipolar or schizophrenia do things so much different. Does this sound familiar, eating with hands, cramming their mouth full, always in a hurry but never going anywhere, Peeing on the toilet lid and around the commode, spitting snot on the floor, vomiting in the sink because of over eating at nite, putting cigarettes out where ever, writing on walls, this mind you is not a child but a 28 year old. These are just the charateristics of most ppl with disorders. It's like you tell them over and over but it doesn't sink in. This person I am speaking of is on meds and doing well compared to what it once was. I am just thankful he is not lighting fires on his carpet and disappearing for weeks. Meds do help but you would have to get a involuntary commitment from a magistrait, the jail is where we go here, and they are there all nite, you will have to say if he has threatened anyone or is harm to himself befor they will draw up one, once they do the police will go get him and escourt him to a mental health service or a hospital and evaluate him , then he will be committed at a hospital and put on a locked ward, there he will be treated with meds to help him. Most facilities are gentle and nice, of course there is always one or two that are not. There he can get help in filling out forms to be put on medicade insurance and he will also be put on disability so he can get a check every month to live on. First he has to have a diagnosis from a dr. And this is prob. the route you will have to take, i did this 6 times for someone i care about and after a lot of hard work he is doing much better now.

you are very welcome. I know how hard it is. Finding a way to love someone with a disorder such as this is very hard. That is a great lesson on loving "unconditionally", that is what we are called to do, but believe me it ain't easy. IT AIN'T EASY! HAHA screaming.

Yeah, the psychosis is correct. But, I'd say he's schizophrenic or retarded.

He needs to be in the hospital for a complete psychiatric evaluation.

EDIT: Look in your local phonebook, there should be Community Service numbers listed somewhere near the beginning. Look for a phone number that is related to mental healthcare. They will tell you how to get him evaluated, and they may also be able to find ways to get him Disability benefits to help with medical expenses.
