The Scent of a Woman.............or Man....... ;)

I have a very sensitive nose and to top it off I'm extremely sensitive to chemicals as well. I had to stop using perfumes, many years ago as they would break me out, or I could only wear them spritzed on my hair. I noticed that, now, chemical perfumes are VERY noticable to me and VERY unappealing. It's as if I can't get past the chemical smell, they just smell...well...manufactured. So...I started wearing essential oils instead, they don't break me out and I've a few that are my favorites. I really loved the scent of Patchouli, but the last 2 bottles that I bought stunk! I really think something was wrong with them because they just do NOT smell like I am used to. I have natural patchouli soap and a body cream that smell lovely. I'm really thinking I got 2 bum bottles. Now...all that to say, I'm interested in exploring new scents. I don't like powdery or really sweet smells. But without going to a perfumery, who mixes oils, I'm a bit limited. I'm wondering what scents might mix well together...what should I try? Any suggestions? Are you familiar with essential oils? What scent do you like on your woman?(be nice) For the ladies, what scent do you like on your man? Are you someone who appreciates a good fragrance or does that not entice you? I get compliments, all the time, on patchouli, but I have to say it's mostly women that like it. LOL! Help a gal out, would ya?

I don't really know what smells the oils come in. I do really like the smell of lavender. I used to buy that type of oil and put it on my dryer sheets. so that my clothes would smell like lavender... oh that made me think of something. The smell of lavender mixed with vanilla to me is heavenly. I put it on my pillows, and I love to crawl into bed at night. Ahh. Its so relaxing, but it might put you to sleep.

I do like the lavender, in small doses...but not vanilla. That's too sweet a scent for me!

I think you may like the same scents I do. Kind of earthy scents, right? Amber with a little tea rose, the musky smell of sandalwood, apricot and vanilla is wonderful. Another one is Japanese cherry blossom, vanilla rice, mimosa petals and a little patchouli or sandalwood. Of course, you have to play around with the amount of each one used, but when the fragrance is balanced, MMMMMMMMMMMM! You can also add just a tiny bit of cedar to either of these and change it completely. Did you also know that just a bit of a vanilla undertone in fragrances is good for summer time? I helps the fragrance to renew itself as the skin heats up a bit, and you don't have to keep reapplying it. Of course when you use essential oils, the way you do, you don't have to renew it very often anyway. But, that was just a little tidbit of information I picked up from a perfumer. As for what I like to smell on a man, I love anything kind of woodsy and just a hint of musk of some kind.

Yip, sounds like it. I'm not too keen on vanilla, but maybe as an undertone. It's hard to experiment because it can get expensive. But..yea..the stuff you mention...uhmmm......

What you do is take a toothpick for each oil you plan to use, put just a drop on each one, stick it in a baggie and seal it, and let it sit for .....I don't know, maybe a week. Then open the baggie and see what you think. If you think it needs more of this, or less of that.....it doesn't take a lot for the samples.
