I’ve found that using a powder primer is much better for oily skin than the gel primers that are popping up everywhere. The best one I’ve found is called Mattify! Loose Powder by Mattify Cosmetics (costs around 8 bucks at www.mattifycosmetics.com). You dust it on both before and after foundation to set makeup and provide a light air-brushed finish. It’s colorless too, so is completely undetectable and will not disturb the color of your foundation. Also, it keeps pores clean because the Kaolin clay in the product actually soaks up oil and dirt from your pores througout the day, and then all this debris is washed away when you cleanse your face. My skin is SO insanely oily that I need to use it for touch-ups a couple of times a day, but even when you use it over your makeup, it doesn’t disturb the foundation – just soaks up all the oil and gives you a fresh, matte look.
After spending hundreds of dollars on sticky and/or silicone based gel primers (Smashbox, Paula Dorf, Revlon, Philosophy) I haven’t found anything that works better than this little $8 item that I call a miracle in a jar! I had also tried Bare Minerals and Mineral Veil as a powder primer – with horrible results. They made my skin itch, and look shinier than ever. I recently discovered on the Mattify website that the mineral veils contain pearl powder and mica. No wonder they make already oily skin look even greasier! So, avoid those too. This Mattify Loose Powder doesn’t contain any shiny ingredients, so it leaves you with a matte complexion and helps any foundation last hours longer than it would by itself.
