Take him to the store and try different ones on him so you can find the ones you both like

I would not try to get a recommendation on here, I would go down to you local dept store and ask to smell some samples. You can find something that you will like on him. Since he likes AXE, you can try to find something similar but not the same thing. If you go way off, he might not like it. But then again, if YOU like it, he probably will wear it just to make you want to be nearer! You can also get some samples to take home and try on him first. They are usually free and its a good idea to do this because cologne smells different when it mixes with our own scent. Thats why some people smell great wearing something, but you dont like it on another person. Cologne is pretty pricey so it could pay off to try a few samples!

My husband and son like Axe but the scent wears off. Go to the counter at Macy's or other department store and smell away. A few coffee beans or ground coffee in a baggie helps to smell in between when the scents get overwhelming and start smelling alike. On my guy I love Michael Jordan-yum! Try Hugo Boss for something with more staying power. Adidas has several different scents and may help bridge from plain Axe to something more expensive and long lasting.
Ask a guy who happens to walk buy smelling good, what they are wearing? Its awkward at first but guys are usually flattered by this and don't mind being asked.
Explain to your guy that you really like smells, certain scents we have are saved only for special times together. Its a turn on when he smells delicious and manly:)
Have fun with it. Ask for samples at department stores, they tend to smell different on everyone to some extent. If he will have him come along to smell with you. Otherwise you choose and leave him a surprise gift with a note in an unexpected place for him to find later in the day and suggest he wear it home that night. Make it fun, flirty, not demanding.
Happy sniffing.
