What is the best way to wash human hair extensions?

I just got clip in human hair extensions. Are you suppose to wash them? If so, do you use shampoo and conditioner? Are there any shampoos and conditioners just made for extensions? Thanks!

Yes, you can wash them. You should remove the extensions and comb out any tangles with a wide tooth comb starting from the bottom and working your way to the top of the weft. Then take one piece at a time and run it under luke warm water. Apply the shampoo directly on the hair. Starting with the top of the weft near the clips place the hair between your palms and rub your palms together to lather the shampoo from root to tip. Then rinse in cool water repeat if necessary. Now apply the conditioner in the same manner and comb through the hair to apply the conditioner evenly and make sure there are no tangles. Rinse the conditioner out and then comb through the hair again and lay flat to dry.

A few things to remember:
1. The results will depend on the quality of the hair. Some human hair contain a silicone coating which allows the hair to look silky and feel soft. Once you wash them this coating can be stripped away and the hair may tangle or bush out with future wears.
2. Use a moisturing shampoo and conditioner but rinse with cool water so the moisturizer will not make the hair too shiny.
3. Always comb the hair starting from the ends up to the clips to remove any tangles.

Only shampoo gently. Use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and allow to air dry. Trim off the ends when they become dry and frizzy.

You should use soft bristled brush from the ends of the hair. Gently brush your hair 2 or 3 times a day. Do not use excessive blow dryers and curling irons as the heat may reduce the life of your hair extensions. Another care of hair extensions involves not perming, coloring or applying any other chemical to your hair extensions on your own. You should consult your hair stylist for carrying out any such hairstyles and hair coloring activities. You should sleep only if your hair is completely dry. Hair extensions care also recommends wrapping your hair together or gently tying it to prevent tangles and knots.
