What options does an online patron have when they have been scammed?

Scammers have many different identities, company names, and e-mail addresses, and they open and close them as often as the wind changes directions. Most of them are from foreign countries, most often like Nigeria or Ivory Coast or Benin, although some are from England or China, so pursuing them to get your money back when you discover the scam is all but impossible. Here is some advice:

1> if it seems too good to be true, it usually is
2> if you cannot verify their existence through Better Business Bureau or Standard and Poor's rating, MIGHT be a scam
3> if they demand payment via Western Union or MoneyGram to foreign country, ALMOST ALWAYS a scam
4> if their special offer is only good today or a day or two, possibly a scam

use common sense in evaluating such offers--does what they offer seem reasonable to you ? If not, LIKELY it is a scam.

Hope that helps.
