Why do I need a prescription for eczema hand cream?

Postby enos » Thu Aug 12, 2010 11:33 pm

I went to the store today because I have eczema, I know this because a doctor told me that a few years ago and my skin condition looks exactly like pictures online of eczema, yet when I go to the store to buy eczema cream I'm told that I need to get a prescription. My question to you is this: when did this start? Why can't a person who has eczema just go to the store and ask for specific medicated cream for their hand for eczema? Thenit got me to thinking about many other things. Why are basic medical drugs so tightly restricted anyway? I can understand certain types of antibiotics and highly addictive drugs like heroin, coke and crack, but why do I need a prescription for eczema hand cream? Why do we willingly bend over for these people who tell us what we can and can't use on our own bodies?

Probably because it is a very high dosage. Our youngest daughter has such bad eczema when she was a toddler that we literally had to put 4" X 4" gauze patches on the backs of her legs where her knees bent. She would scratch them until they were raw. The white prescription cream for her eczema really helped, and eventually she grew out of it. She's now 19 and doesn't have trouble anymore. My husband has dry skin, which is probably how she inherited it from. The best cream out there is the Eucerin. See link below:
