I don't think women spend money trying to relive there youth, and not all do it because they have self-esteem issues. It can be a for of self expression...many make-up products and clothing are in collections to create different looks. For others, its kind of a mental therapy, taking care of ourselves can give us down time to unwind, and increase mood. When I do my makeup, it is not to gain the attention of others, I go out all the time with no make up at all. Playing around with it is fun for me. And then there are those of us who do use make up and clothing and products for the sole purpose of increasing our appearance. Again, that is a mental thing as well, that can range from hiding things that lower our self-esteem, to just being uplifting for us to enhance our natural beauty. While appearance is not everything, media has always used beauty to sell, and personal appearance does carry a vast weight in our society. There is nothing wrong with wanting to improve your appearance as long as it is not taken overboard. From an economical stand-point, the fashion and beauty business is extremely important. Imagine going to vegas, and seeing a stage show, with no elaborate make up, no costumes, or any visually stimulating enhancements...would you still be willing to pay 150 dollars a ticket to see the show? If everyone marketed without the use of beautiful models, fancy clothing, and other enhancements, would you be as inclined to buy their product. It seems silly I know, but these things carry more of an impact than people care to realize.
