Why doesn't my hair spike/stick up after putting gel?

im a guy and when i put on gel, once my hair sticks up, it immediately goes down/flat and i was wandering why?

i use various types of gel on damp or dry hair such as brylcream, shockwave etc but it doesn'ts last long.

i used the same products before and my hair use to spike up and i looked bare cool but now its not working for me.

try and to do it with your hair dry.
another good way is use aussie gel & hairspray (aersol)
it works really well!
